SU Outing Club Code of Conduct

Section 1: Purpose

This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations and responsibilities of all SUOC members to ensure a safe, inclusive, respectful, and engaging environment in line with the club’s mission to foster outdoor recreation, education, leadership, and community.

It reflects the values that guide SUOC and ensures every member contributes to a positive experience for all. By participating in SUOC, you agree to uphold these standards.

Section 2: Respect and Inclusion

  • All members shall treat others with respect and kindness, regardless of background, identity, or skill level.
    • Discrimination, harassment, or inappropriate behavior of any kind will not be tolerated. This includes but is not limited to sexist, racist, homophobic, xenophobic, ableist, or classist behavior.
  • Members are encouraged to participate in club dialogues, trainings, and events that promote inclusivity and equity in the outdoors.
  • All activities are challenge by choice, peer pressure is not tolerated

Section 3: Responsibility and Safety

  • Members must follow the guidance and decisions of trip leaders, who are responsible for ensuring trip safety.
  • Members should report any incidents, or unsafe behavior to the trip leader or Executive Council as appropriate.
  • The natural environments visited are to be respected. Members must follow Leave No Trace principles and promote environmental stewardship.

Section 4: Expectation of Behavior for Executive Council

  • All reports given to members of executive council are assumed confidential unless the reporter says otherwise, and will only be shared with members of the executive council
    • Except in cases of direct immediate harm, illegal activity, or Title IX violation
  • Members of executive council will behave responsibly at all SUOC related events 
  • Members of executive council will treat all members with respect regardless of situation and be cognizant of personal bias 

Section 5: Accountability and Conduct Review

  • Violations of the Code of Conduct or SUOC Constitution will be reviewed on a case by case basis with Executive Council and may result in the following:
    • Warnings/further discussions
    • Suspension from club activities
    • Revocation of gear or leadership privileges to be determined by the eroom chair and activity chair
    • Removal of club membership 

Section 6: Acknowledgment

All members, by joining SUOC and participating in its activities, agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and uphold the values of community, responsibility, and mutual respect that define SUOC.
