About us

Who Are We?

SUOC is an entirely student-run club, with members from the entire university community. We’re a group of outdoor enthusiasts, having fun doing the things we love and teaching the next generation of adventurers.

A list of current officers and trip leaders can be found here.

What Do We Do?

We run trips every single week, going hiking, backpacking, mountaineering, rock and ice climbing, horizontal and vertical caving, canoeing, whitewater kayaking, cross-country and backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, and more all throughout New York.

Can I Come?

Absolutely – and there’s no experience necessary! We offer trips for everyone, ranging from complete beginners to expert outdoorsmen. In addition, we also provide all necessary instruction and equipment that you’ll need for all of our trips.

How much does it cost?

Membership for undergraduates is a flat $20 for the year, or $15 for a semester. For non-undergraduate students, membership is $25 for the year, or $20 for a semester. You don’t have to pay your membership until after your first trip – so you can make up your mind after you come out with us!

Trips are FREE – we just ask you pitch in a few dollars for gas! As a member, there is NO cost to use our gear on our trips!

How Can I Sign Up?

Click here to sign up. You must sign up as a member of SUOC to go on our trips! For Fall 2022, meetings are in the Life Sciences Building Auditorium, every Tuesday at 7:30 pm.

All of our gear is stored in the E-Room located on South Campus. Come hang out, get outfitted for a trip, and learn new skills every Wednesday and Thursday from 7-9pm.

Sign up for trips and stay in touch with our Facebook group, open to all members! SUOC also has a number of university run listservs available, with instructions for joining at this link.

Please note that the ONLY way to get on the listserv is for you follow the above directions; signing up on our roster or writing your email down on a list at a tabling event does NOT subscribe you!
